"After just 200 years of Edinburgh weather our scotch slate roof had reached end of life. As a major project we looked at around ten firms in the area and invited four to submit proposals. From the first interaction Pentland Roofing and Ross impressed with their review of what needed to be done, the issues to be addressed and the design and plan for the replacement. We undertook references on all the firms and in the case of Pentland were very reassured by the quality of work we saw and the client references given on similar jobs. We had to wait for a few months to start the project, natural for an in demand and reputable roofing firm with a pipeline of work planned in advance, but Ross was good at communicating with us on start dates and stuck to his plan. Once work got started the progress was excellent. We weren't on site but got daily messages on progress, videos for any issues that had been identified and a heads-up on any decisions to be made. Ross was available in the evenings when needed if we were unable to find time to call during the day. We chose to change some of the timber and all of the cast iron guttering and were happy with the advice and costings we got from Pentland on those items. The end result was an exceptionally high quality job, finished on time and on budget and a with clean job site left afterwards. A new roof is a major investment and low budget or bad quality work will be prominently on show for decades - we're pleased to have no such issues and even in the rain we can admire the straight lines, carefully shaped valleys and the neat felt work as we leave and return. We're very happy to have gone with Pentland and I would have no hesitation in recommending them for complete roof renovations in slate tile."

There ended up being more work due to the roof being in a worse state than initially anticipated (which wasn't surprising given it hadn't be well-maintained over the last 20+ years). "Pentland Roofing replaced the 16-square-metre flat roof on our rear extension. To be honest, it should have been done years ago by the look of it, but, of course, we waited until it started leaking in November heavy rains. We were fortunate to get three consecutive dry, but cold, days in which they completed the whole job, getting the old roof off and the new to a waterproof stage by the end of day one. The old roof was worse than anticipated, the boards being spongy and rotten: they showed me the problem, discussed the solution, and requoted to include replacement of those boards so that the work could continue without delay. The new roof looks terrific, with its lead edging and repointed stonework, and all signs of work and debris have been tidied away. We already feel the benefit of the new insulation. We have not had to call on roofers before, so this is not a comparative review, but our experience with Pentland Roofing has been fully positive in terms of communication and the product that they deliver. If you want it done once, and done properly, this is where to go."

"Delayed due to weather, however we were kept up to date and work started promptly. Carried out less than the time stated despite having to replace wood panels damaged over the years. Good value for the work carried out and no sign of any leaks after the rain we have had. Guys were good and made sure the roof and garage were not left insecure or exposed to weather overnight.
